10:00 AM - 3:00 PM    Human Powered Parade - Human Powered Parade
For the 8th year, Bristol's streets will be buzzing with the thrum of creative motion for the Human Powered Parade on Saturday, May 18th 10am - 3pm. Come celebrate human power at this season's parade and activity fair showcasing organizations engaged in EMERGENCE efforts globally and locally.Create costumes, bike decorations, and other parade floats or fun functions that explore the theme of Emergence. Emergent = coming into being. What EMERGENT themes are present in your life? Think critters and flowers popping into spring! Think cellular-level emergence—developing, growing, budding, burgeoning, nascent, fledgling. Think viruses exiting the frontal social context! And emerging into the next century—what will the future bring?Gather at 10:00am with a BMX show at 10:30, and the parade starting at 11:00am. The parade comes back to the Rec Field for some music, roller skating and food truck delights.

6:00 PM - 8:00 PM    Vermont Afterschool Community Trainings - Resilience and Youth Wellness
The Bristol Hub is excited to partner with United Way of Addison County to bring Matt Wolf from Vermont Afterschool to Bristol for a series of community workshops.  The workshops are for anyone who interacts with teens and wants to be equipped with more knowledge and skills to better understand, navigate, and support the youth in our community as the navigate the multitude of problems and situations they face. We will offer three workshops, they can be taken as a consecutive series or as one of workshops. May 8th: Redefining Resilience:This two-hour workshop provides an introduction to N.E.A.R (Neuroscience, Epigenetics, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), and Resilience) research. Knowledge of these elements empowers us to shift the dynamics in our communities to prevent high ACE scores, build connection, and foster resilience. Relevant to children, youth, families, and communities in general, Redefining Resilience supports us all to better understand the impacts of adversity and how we can support each other.May 16th: Youth and Relationships: This workshop brings participants through a process of learning about how our experience shape our brain development, our identities, and our view of how the world works, while also gaining an understanding of where youth are in their development, and what they need for support as they grow & move forward in life. Learning about the stages of relationship development and how experiences shape identity development, we will explore how supportive relationships help build resilience and support connectedness as a means of navigating life’s ups & downs. Ending with some practice & conversation around listening actively and sitting with discomfort in difficult conversations, participants will walk away with a deeper understanding of young people & their needs for support, as well as skills to maintain connection through adversity & difficult times. May 23rd: Resilience and Youth Wellness:This workshop provides an opportunity to learn more about the protective factors of youth and what it means to be resilient. We will address strategies to increase protective factors of youth, essential building blocks of resilience, and common signs of substance misuse in youth as well as resources to address substance misuse and youth mental health.
